RUBB-O-GRAM explores the idea of direct photographic representation with the use of light in the absence of analog photographic materials, such as light sensitive paper and chemicals. Full Project Statement HERE
Using an overhead projector, I playfully drop rubber bands on its bed, projecting their images onto a screen. The rubber bands function as a conveyor of line and their projected silhouetted images form accidental patterns. The projected light drawings are photographed and then arranged in a grid, attempting to impose a structure of order upon the random patterns. The alignment is intentionally imperfect to imply entropy at play.
The accompanying video becomes a durational “photogram” as well as a document of a performance where the element of chance plays a central role.
