Miss/Take illustrates the visual possibilities of failure. The digital capture system has an inherently finicky temperament towards instability. These “failures,” are the result of a technical miscommunication between the camera and the capture program. I later rescued the files from the digital trash folder and processed them. They are devoid of any outside referential information and were mechanically self-generated by the system. The system’s refusal to copy and record what is in front of the camera lens leads to the display of the particular conditions of the system itself. Created through no intention of my own, they play with notions of chance, production and originality. This series explores a betrayal of what we know about photography; that it is a recording of what exists within our physical world. I contend that the shortcomings and limitations of photography allows for the visualization of the unimaginable.
